In recent weeks, we’ve seen a large increase in the number of Crypto locker and ransomware attacks that are affecting businesses.

These attacks are very sophisticated in how they gain access to your data and often trick the user into running a piece of malicious code.

Here are my top 3 rules for reducing the risk:

  • Keep up to date FULL backups. Disconnect the backup drive after it has completed and store it somewhere safe. It is important to disconnect it.
  • Don’t click on web links from an email that has been sent to you. Get into the habit of getting out of your email program and opening your favourite web-browser to manually enter the site name.
  • Keep antivirus and backup software up to date. While many of the attacks will trick you, there are still many that will enter via the traditional methods.
